Passports may take longer to process. State Department’s Passport Services agency processing time has jumped from four to six weeks to six to eight weeks. If you make travel plans that require a passport, please plan ahead to obtain the necessary travel documents. There is, however, an expedited processing option for an additional fee of $60. This will cut processing time down to two to three weeks.
A few years ago, I traveled with someone who didn’t submit their paperwork within a reasonable time and we had to cancel our trip all together. This can be an expensive problem because you may not be refunded your travel expenses under certain circumstances.
