As of November 2019, Carnival will no longer sail to the island of Antigua. This change affects passengers who plan to cruise with Carnival aboard their Breeze, Legend, Magic and Pride ships. Not only will cruise passengers be affected, but Antigua and Barbuda expect to lose significant tourism revenue due to this decision by Carnival Cruise Line. This will hurt businesses in Antigua from store owners to tour operators and bars and restaurants who greatly depend on patronage from cruise passengers who visit their island. During the upcoming season, the Carnival ships were expected to bring over 200,000 visitors to the island.
This is troubling news considering Antigua’s sister island Barbuda is still rebuilding after being obliterated by two category 5 hurricanes in September 2017.
