Casa Taco and Tequila Bar is situated on the ground floor in Tropicana Casino at the Marketplace. We were quickly seated and served a basket of tortilla chips with salsa roja and salsa verde. The waiter was a little off with his service and outside of the music, everything about the restaurant from service, drinks, to the food was underwhelming. Latin food is usually full of flavor and indulging. This was not the case with the food at Casa Taco.

To start, I had a mango margarita – Flavorless, alcohol-less, just LESS than anything I was hoping for. I ordered the Pollo y Camarones Loco, which is chicken breast topped with sauteed peppers, onions and queso mixto. It was served with refried beans, yellow rice and grilled shrimp. I barely finished my food. It didn’t have any flavor, and maybe I could have added some pico de gallo or some type of hot sauce, but I don’t think that would have given the dish the flavor profile it sadly, lacking. The seasoning, spices, herbs known in Latin cuisine was not present. The color of the dish was bright, but after you eat with your eyes, the dish should actually taste good.

Omar ordered the Carne Asada – hand selected New York Strip, chimichurri, yellow rice and drunken beans along with sweet plantains with a caramel sauce. The caramel sauce on the plantains wasn’t needed at all. I liked his steak, but once again, the food just lacked flavor. I couldn’t wrap my mind around it. The only thing I enjoyed about the restaurant was listening to the latest and hottest reggaeton songs playing in the background.

Overall, I could have saved a bunch of money and time if I avoided this place all together. The menu items were high in price. The food and experience just didn’t match the price. It was not worth it at all.
To close, not only was the food not great, but a little fly took over Omar’s bowl of beans and that is the exact moment we knew it was time to head back to our casa and forget about our time at Casa Taco and Tequila Bar.
