Exiting the cruise ship, I was dressed for the beach, but was disappointed when I discovered that the nearest beach is man-made. I was advised that I would need to take a ferry or flight to a nearby island to enjoy one of Belize’s beautiful natural beaches. We opted for a tour of the Altun Ha Ruins, jungle, and a distillery. The drive to the ruins was about an hour each way from the cruise port. It was a long drive that wasn’t very scenic.
Before we got back on the ship, we made a stop at Better Belize It Bar and Grill where we enjoyed Belizean style stew chicken with rice and beans.
The highlight of the day for me was driving past former New York rapper Shyne’s home. We didn’t get to see him, but it was a close enough connection for me to appreciate.
