5 THINGS TO LEARN FROM MISSING NEW YORK COUPLE FOUND DEAD IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

While this story is tragic, we can all learn some things from their experience so that we can make better decisions when booking our trips to foreign destinations.

A New York couple took a trip to the Dominican Republic last month, but never returned home. According to news reports, Portia Ravenelle was found unconscious on the highway by local fishermen in the Dominican Republic. She died at the hospital days later. The body of a man matching the identity of Orlando Moore was found floating in the ocean 25 minutes from where Ravenelle was found. Dominican police say the couple may have crashed their vehicle on the highway en route to the airport which was 100 miles from their hotel. They were supposed to catch a 2 am flight to Newark Airport, but their car crashed 15 to 20 minutes from the airport in Santo Domingo.  Video surveillance at a toll bridge showed the couple alive at around 1:40 am on March 27, 2019.

While this story is tragic, we can all learn some things from their experience so that we can make better decisions when booking our trips to foreign destinations.  Fun and relaxation are important, but safety should be a top priority when traveling to any country. Below are 5 things to learn from Portia and Orlando’s untimely accident.

1. Cheaper flights may cause inconveniences.
2. Avoid driving at night.
3. Don’t drink and drive.
4.Trust your instincts.
5. Allow extra travel time to get back to the airport.

All of the above factors may have played a role in the couple’s demise.  It’s so important that we make safety a priority in every instance.  Many speculate that foul play was involved in the couple’s death. I am praying for the couple’s family and friends.

Safe travels, Junkies xoxo
