We visited Jimmy’s on what felt like the coldest day of the year so far in 2018. Behind a huge snowstorm that nearly crippled New York City, we had to cancel our annual plans to visit Atlantic City as Greyhound halted service and it was not safe to drive through a reported artic cyclone that struck the shore side of New Jersey.
I booked a night at the Marriot Residence Inn Hotel and Suites in Midtown Manhattan near Central Park. I made dinner reservations at a popular Puerto Rican restaurant for my Puerto Rican husband who was celebrating his 40th birthday. I had to come through for my boo. We were celebrating a milestone and I had to do something special for the most special man in my life.
Although the music radiated in the lounge area, Jimmy’s was relatively quiet. I am surprised they were even open for business on such a frigid winter night. I honestly did not know what to expect, but I was surprised to see other people out and about! New York is seriously an unstoppable City. No matter what happens to us, you will find people moving about without a care in the world.
The food was good, but the atmosphere was great! On this particular night, they played old school music from the best times of my life. Ashante, Ja Rule and the rest of Murder Inc., Puffy and the Bad Boy Family, Ruff Riders and the Lox. Every song that came on brought back a timeless memory that I will never let go of. The music played that night was more memorable for me than the food, so for me Jimmy’s is definitely a place to go and have a drink and simply vibe off the music.
I sipped on a coconut mojito while Omar had his shots of Henny. To start I had the picadera. A sampler platter that included Latin style beef patties, calamari, and fried pork chunks. I loved the lobster sliders. The brioche buns were buttery and delicious with chunks of flavorful lobster packed between each bun. At the end of the night, we enjoyed a slice of heaven. They brought out a complimentary slice of birthday cake. The chocolate cake was rich, moist and super indulging. It was a chocolate lovers dream come true. Layers of cake with dense chocolate filling in between each layer. It was a treat.
It was a cold night in NYC, but we definitely filled the air with the warmth of our loving hearts. I love spending time with my husband. I will always have his back and support him through any storm. We are each other’s rock ‘til death do us part.
