Delicious Puerto Rican cuisine served at a restaurant conveniently set at the head of City Island. We sat in the outdoor space near the water. It was a beautiful day. The temperature was warm. The sun radiated making the water shimmer like a bed of sparkles. It was quiet outside as we sat under a white tent right off a boating dock.
For an appetizer we had two styles of empanadas one filled with shrimp and the other filled with beef. For dinner, Rain had fried jumbo shrimp with French fries. I had the DC Skirt Steak and Shrimp with white rice and pink beans. The flavors are on point and the steak was cooked well. I had a Pina colada that was reminiscent of a coco, the coconut flavored Dominican ice you find in the busy urban streets of NYC. Dominican ice is a sweet compliment to the grittiest neighborhoods. For dessert we had a delightfully sweet and creamy coconut flan. The caramel glaze cascaded down the sides of this magnificent treat. Dinner at Don Coqui was the perfect end to an eventful weekend. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Sincerely,
